Helping new and prospective people to the longhaired
miniature dachshund with information is one of our goals. Whether on the phone,
at a Northwest all-breed show or specialty, or now on the internet, we enjoy
talking about dogs and dachshunds in particular!. For new, old, and
perhaps future friends in this delightful, dashing and dapper breed, our website
exchanges information about our longhaired miniature dachshunds, future
breeding and show prospects, and reminisce about our foundation dogs of Calista.
Contact us about the occasional availability of a home
raised and trained young adult or an adult dog that will make a great family
pet.
2007 was an exciting year. We went to DCA National in Sacramento where not
only did we spend a week with friends from around the world, but attended
several seminars. My favorite event was a private tour of the genetics lab at
U.C. Davis. We were able to see where the geneticists performed their tests and
were able to spend the afternoon asking them about several studies they are
conducting. We also discussed the PRA test that is being done at the AHT
facility in England. It was so nice to have our positive opinion of the test
validated by this genetic authority.
We finished Kalan (cream) and Carlin (b&t).
We were invited to Eucanuba Championship show in Long Beach. Although we did
not win at Eucanuba, we had a wonderful time. What an honor.
In October our new cream girl Autumn joined our home. She has the most
beautiful face and expressive eyes. I can hardly wait to see how she turns out
as an adult. With her attitude there should be no stopping her.
In 2008 we are going to several shows. We will be showing Kalan as a special
and working on attaining Gillian’s championship. We will be attending this
years’ DCA National Specialty in Dallas this April. We are also looking forward
to breeding AM/CAN CH Belgate’s Journey to Calista MDL “Mace” to CH Calista’s
Combined Assets ML “Carlin”. Not only do these two have the phenotype and
genotype to compliment each other but this will be another step where we use the
results of our AHT-PRA testing; we are breeding a “clear” to a “carrier”. All of
the offspring will need to be tested, but we are hoping that this breeding will
result in some show quality “clear” puppies.
Sincerely,
Michaelle Sande
